FOUR PAWS and one of Sofia’s administrative districts mark together the World Animal Day

2016-11-15

On the occasion of the World Animal Day, which is celebrated on 4th of October, the animal-welfare organization FOUR PAWS and Studentski District of Sofia Municipality are partners in the campaign "Defend the defenceLESS". The partnership includes a series of interactive presentations of FOUR PAWS in all kindergartens in the district in the week 3-7 October.

The FOUR PAWS visits in kindergartens are associated with introducing the rescue centers and sanctuaries of the organization worldwide. During the meetings, the children will learn more about the essence of a rescue center for animals, why it is necessary and how FOUR PAWS takes care of the rescued animals in need. Hristina Petrova, Children and Youth Projects Coordinator at FOUR PAWS, will tell children about the role of humans in protecting the life and health of the animal species. "Children are always very curious about the processes in the animals’ world and the encounters with them are essential to building a right attitude to the problems of the animals’ world, as well as having a deep respect for all living beings," she says.

The World Animal Day is celebrated on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, who is the Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment. A decision for its celebration was taken back in 1931 at the International Congress of supporters of the Movement for the Protection of Nature in Florence, Italy. The Animal Protection Act in Bulgaria came into force in 2008.
